Civil Engineer

Department: DMN: Sales & Marketing | Engineering
Location: Prinsburg, MN

As a Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for project research, planning, and design phases of various civil engineering projects. The Civil Engineer will design project plans and specifications for both internal and external clients. You will also support Duininck construction services through expert advice, construction details, quantity takeoffs, GIS data mapping, and environmental compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design and drafting of civil engineering projects; including calculations, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Support the permitting process; obtaining and managing stormwater permits, DNRWater Appropriation permits, various agency permits (watershed, wetland, etc) and Gravel Pit | Asphalt plant permitting.
  • Support the Estimating and Project Management teams by determining earthwork and quantities needed, reviewing bid information, and assisting in plan reviews as needed/requested.
  • Support the company through Geographic Information Systems data collection, input & map preparation including soil borings, property maps, potential land purchases, etc.
  • Review job plans and specifications and attend pre-construction meetings for projects.
  • Mentor and support the Field Survey Technician and other engineering personnel as needed.
  • Monitor SWPPP inspections and maintenance completion.
  • Maintain and enhance skills through continuing education to meet or exceed state licensure requirements.
  • Partner with Area Sales Managers and Business Development Leaders on bids including customer and community meetings and events.
  • Travel to projects as necessary.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related discipline.
  • 2 years experience in civil engineering design focused on-site grading and utility plans, street and roadway design, hydraulic analysis, residential subdivisions, SWPPP preparation, etc. preferred. Consideration is given to experience in geotechnical, structural, and rail engineering.
  • Experience in heavy highway | heavy civil construction preferred, but not required.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification is required at a minimum. Minnesota Professional Engineer License (PE) is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D design software is required. Experience using HydroCAD, ESRI ArcGIS, Revit, MIDS, or other design softwares is helpful.
  • Thorough knowledge of site-related design codes, standard construction specifications, and construction practices is required.
  • An ability to mentor, train and manage employees.
  • Strong coordination, time management, active listening and reasoning skills required.
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills, and ability to work with a variety of people and positions.
  • Willingness to travel as needed, with a focus throughout Minnesota, Northern Iowa, and Eastern Dakotas.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit.
  • Work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly work extended | overtime hours, outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions at all project locations.
  • Travel is required.
