We are seeking a Construction Management Intern with similar values, who can put his or her expertise to work. As an intern with our Heavy Highway & Heavy Civil teams, you will have an opportunity to gain firsthand construction knowledge and experience while ensuring that the full range of construction activities are completed efficiently and successfully.
This position will provide a "hands-on" experience in some of the following areas:
- Job Shadowing Superintendents, Project Managers, Estimators and Crew Leads.
- Working alongside laborers in all aspects of road construction
- Assisting in the management of small crews and scheduling, including the documentation of daily activities and crew time recordings, safety checks for projects and weekly meetings
- Managing critical path timelines.
- Participating in construction meetings with owners, architects, and engineers.
- Understanding construction plans and assisting in surveying.
- Experience with estimating and utilizing Bid2Win software.
The location of the projects are yet to be determined, but may be located in a number of locations within MN, SD, ND, or IA.
Essential Duties & Position Responsibilities:
- Assist in the day-to-day management of overall project operations, people, and processes to help in learning all facets of the construction industry.
- Assist Project Managers with technical compliance and oversight of construction activities and field operations.
- Assist Field Superintendents in documenting daily and weekly progress reports.
- Assist with quality and quantity reporting.
- Read and interprets drawings, blueprints, specifications, and related technical documents.
- Assist with project scheduling and coordination
- Perform other duties as required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- A full-time college/university student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or construction engineering
- Basic knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods, etc.) as well as an understanding of industry practices, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities
- Strong written and verbal skills. Ability to read, write, and interpret reports, manuals, and correspondence
- Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills
- Self-starter with a proactive approach who can adapt easily to a fast-paced environment
- Effective multitasking while remaining detail oriented.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team of professionals.
- Understand and adhere to all safety regulations.
- Understand and adhere to the Personal Protection Equipment requirements.
Physical and other requirements:
- Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit.
- Work extended hours out of doors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Travel and some Saturday work are required.
